5 Leadership Questions to reveal leadership potential

  1. How do you measure your own performance at work?
  2. Tell me about a time you had to complete a task you had never done before
  3. What’s the most difficult decision you have ever had to make and how did you come to that decision?
  4. How do you come up with ideas?
  5. Who was the best boss you ever had?

I have served on over 75 interview panels and one of my biggest concerns is the lack of deep thought-provoking questions that can identify a quality leader. We are all aware that there is no perfect mechanism for identifying innovators and top talent. I like the above questions as it includes questions on metrics and measurement and the route you take to accomplish a task. I am concerned about the proliferation of artificial intelligence and personality tests that many employers are using to weed out candidates. I am deeply concerned about the biases in many of these surveys. I have seen some candidates perform below average on some of these instruments yet, they have a long record of increasing academic outcomes and improving the organizations in which they had served.
